As one of the best corrosion-resistant steels available, 304 can withstand a wide range of environments and can be used with various corrosive media. Pitting and crevice corrosion can occur in chloride-containing environments. Stress corrosion cracking can occur at temperatures over 60°C.

In intermittent service up to 870°C and continuous service up to 925°C, 304 has good oxidation resistance. Despite this, continuous use of 304L is not recommended at temperatures of 425- 860°C due to its resistance to carbide precipitation. When high strength is required at temperatures above 500°C, grade 304H should be chosen. This grade will retain aqueous corrosion resistance at temperatures above 500°C and up to 800°C.

2. Cold Rolling
